About Us

The Branch

Welcome to the website of The Branch of the Basset Hound Club of Wales.
The Branch was opened to accommodate everyone who owns or has an interest in this wonderful breed.
We hold various events throughout the year and everyone is welcome. There are some well known breeders among our members who are always happy to advise if you are looking for a sound, healthy puppy.
Wendy Wakefield is our welfare contact, and many of the Bassets that come to our events have found their “forever” homes through her.
Joining in our woodland and beach walk’s, BBQ’s and parties is a good way to make friends and have fun. Hope to see you soon, and don’t worry, if you want to bring a friend or two, every person and every breed is made welcome on the day.

BHC of Wales

We are the Basset Hound Club of Wales and we have finally fulfilled a long time ambition to begin a branch. The BRANCH will operate outside the borders of Wales and we look forward to showing each and everyone who joins us the same warmth and help as the main club here in Wales.

A little History

There has been a strong breed presence in Wales since the 1950s. The Basset Hound Club of Wales was formed in 1990, as a result of an article about Welsh puppy farms published in a colour supplement of a national newspaper. It featured a half page image of a pitiful Basset bitch used twice yearly, housed in the most appalling conditions with her puppies.

We were recognised by the Kennel Club in 1991. We pride ourselves in helping new breed enthusiasts and look forward to seeing them at one of our events.

Our Objectives

  • To encourage the improvement of the breed as recognised by the Kennel Club.
  • To promote the welfare of the Basset Hound
  • To hold educational seminars
  • To hold shows and activities for Basset Hounds in Wales
  • To advise and encourage members who have no previous experience of the breed

The extended Branch

We are now able, through the launch of our 'Branch' to extend our help and friendship and we look forward to meeting you and your hounds at one of our varied events.
We aim for our events to be informal where like minded people can talk 'basset', no matter how many you might have.
